The History of Central Saint Martins

The Biggest Art and Design Institute

In 1986, Saint Martin School of Art became one of the constituent colleges of the London Institute which was the biggest art and design institute and consist of many art and design schools. Moreover, in 1989, Saint Martin School of Art was merged with another national historical art school which is also the constituent college of London institute named Central School of Art and Design to change its name into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. In 1999, the Drama Centre London was also merged into the Central Saint Martins to make this college even bigger than before.

University of the Arts London

This institution was joined by another school of art, the Byam Shaw School of Art, in the beginning of 2003 make it as the fourth member of the college. Later on, the London Institute, the institute where the Central Saint Martin School of Art and Design become one of the constituent colleges, received a university status. Due to the change of the status, the London institute changed its name into University of the Art London in 2004. Currently, this college is still considered as the world’s best art and design institute since the number of applicants are increasing each year which show its popularity among the students.
